Install VRT on Chrome
This guide works for Google Chrome and any Chromium-based browser (Brave, Vivaldi, Arc, etc.). Takes about 2 minutes.
Download VRT
Click the button below to download the VRT extension package. It's a .zip file—don't open it yet.
Download for ChromeExtract the Folder
Find the downloaded .zip file and extract it. You'll get a folder called something like vrt-chrome.
Open Chrome Extensions
Type this into your Chrome address bar and hit Enter:
Or: Click the three dots menu → Extensions → Manage Extensions
Enable Developer Mode
Look for the Developer mode toggle in the top-right corner of the extensions page. Turn it on.
Load the Extension
Click the Load unpacked button that appeared after enabling Developer mode. Navigate to the folder you extracted in Step 2 and select it.
Select the folder itself, not a file inside it.
You're Done
VRT should now appear in your extensions list and in your browser toolbar. Click the puzzle piece icon to pin it for easy access.
Open ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini—VRT will automatically detect your conversations and let you export them.
Troubleshooting
"Manifest file is missing or unreadable"
You probably selected the wrong folder. Make sure you're selecting the folder that contains a file called manifest.json—not a parent folder.
Extension disappears after restart
Did you move or delete the folder you extracted? Chrome needs that folder to stay in place. Re-extract it somewhere permanent and load it again.
VRT doesn't detect my conversations
Make sure you're on a supported site (ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini). Try refreshing the page. If it still doesn't work, reach out to support.
